The only available drivetrain for the Passat is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 174 horsepower and a six-speed automated transmission. In our tests, the engine helped move the sedan easily and was polished and smooth across its rpm range.
While generally a smooth driver, the automatic occasionally tripped during our tests when moving slowly through dense traffic. The Passat is capable of logging motorway miles as well as cruising country lanes.
